FEAR Gets A Redesign: How to Make The Most Out Of FEAR
#AskDee Question:
“Dee! I downloaded your Most Audacious Breakup Ever Checklist and I chose to form a breakup with Fear! While I have more fears that I care to list here, my biggest fear today is leaving corporate America and starting my own business. I am young (28) with not a lot of experience under my belt to warrant starting a business. I was a great student in high school and college and corporate America found me to be a valuable asset, however, I find that I am more mission focused than the companies that I’ve worked for. I see a problem in the marketplace and I want to solve that problem by starting my own business, but I am scared shitless. I have a small savings, only enough to last me about six months. What if it does not work? What do I do? I know I can do this but I am stuck and I am just not moving.
Dee! How do I transform my fear into something that will work for and with me rather than against me?
Fearless Feline, Los Angeles
#AskDee Response:
First, I want to say THANK YOU for authentically sharing your thoughts and feelings as well as asking your question, and you know, your girl got your back!
Now, Fearless Feline, you’re not sounding so fearless at the moment, but that’s okay because sometimes you have to take a small step back to move a giant step forward.
And this is for sure a learning moment.
So, first things first.
You are simply AMAZING!
You are so strong for being able to see and acknowledge not only a problem within the marketplace, but also within yourself. AND, for wanting to solve both problems simply makes you amazing.
So let’s talk about Step One of the #FACTT Process – Form The Breakup!
You’ve decided to form a breakup with Fear – specifically wanting to Redesign your fear around leaving corporate America to start a business.
Great!
Now, we can get to “how” in a moment, but first, let me ask, “how open-minded would you be about trying an alternative way of perceiving your fears?”
For example, taking what scares the hell out of you, repackaging the thought and feelings surrounding the fears, and repurposing them to work FOR YOU based on a new vision that you’ve created for yourself.
I’m not sure if it’s for you, but it’s a simple and therapeutic process to help further and develop yourself – while you’re on your journey – that new path of wherever success is taking you.
I’m assuming that one of the reasons you’re looking to even start this new journey of leaving corporate America and starting a business is because you know you have more to give.
This new level up that you’re attempting will require a new version of you.
And you know that.
That’s why you’re afraid.
And that’s okay, too.
First, just breathe, and know that things ARE always working out for you on your behalf.
Next, just sit in silence for 60 seconds in pure thankfulness. Be thankful that you have the mind, heart, and will, to see and know that it’s time to move.
Now, that you have formed your breakup with fear, it’s time to counter your fear with an affirmation that’s solid and strong! That is your REAL truth!
A great affirmation would be, “I CAN Successfully start my own business!”
Listen my LA Fearless Feline, the only thing that’s holding you back is you, and sometimes you do that because your greatness is truly overwhelming – to you even. So, you hesitate a bit and doubt yourself. That’s just you loving you.
But now, you have to take the reigns and love you enough to breakup with your old fear of starting a business, and define what you truly see for yourself – your purpose.
Make it your mission and start taking the steps needed to see your thoughts and ideas really come to life.
This is self-reflection and you are literally creating a version of yourself that you really want to see – intentionally and deliberately.
You know you have the power and potential to do more, and be more, however you’re holding yourself back.
You have these great ideas and sometimes even put a plan into place only to never really execute.
Oh, trust, you’ve had some great excuses as to why you didn’t truly execute.
But they were just that.
Excuses.
They meant nothing when you look at the grand scheme of things.
They sounded good and made you feel a bit better about NOT actively moving towards your dreams – but the truth is…
They were excuses built around a little four letter word…
FEAR.
Now, if asked upfront what you’re afraid of a few months ago, you might have said you have no fear and point at what you’ve accomplished in your past. Then diving into your bucket of excuses to justify WHY YOU are not afraid.
Sound familiar?
Well, I’m here to tell you that you can rest your mind.
Don’t be fooled by FEAR!
You have the power to Reinvent your fears!
